T For Toni Morrison

American novelist, Toni Morrison’s original name was Chloe Anthony Wofford Morrison. Her first novel The Bluest Eyes was published in 1970 but it was Song of the Solomon that became hugely popular and brought her International fame. Personally, I’ve struggled to read and understand Toni Morrison’s works because of the depth of her thoughts, but reading Toni Morrison is a must if you are into books. Here’s her quote that I personally like and I’m sure most of you reading this will agree with it too.

The enemy is not men. The enemy is the concept of patriarchy, the concept of patriarchy as the way to run the world or do things.

For decades, patriarchy has been the real enemy. This concept places men on the highest pedestal while degrading women at the same time. In the name of patriarchy, women have been denied rights and freedom and were kept under control by men. Hence, feminists want to break this chain of patriarchy; they have nothing against men. If patriarchy goes, half the problem will be solved because most of the restrictions placed on women would be dissolved. The good news is, the winds of change are blowing. Soon, patriarchy will become history, but it is a slow process and we are still getting there.
