R For Razbliuto, Once Upon A Love

Shreya was intensely in love with Subham. Together they dreamt of a shared future; a family, home, kids, job–everything. Unfortunately, it remained a dream which never materialized. After about 15 years, one afternoon, as Shreya sat sipping her evening tea, unknown to her, she found herself thinking about Subham and their shared dreams. This time, it all felt so fictitious and unrealistic. What surprised her more was she was able to think of Subham in a strangely different way. And this was the person she could not live without 15 years ago. Strange, isn’t it? All those who have loved and lost must surely be familiar with looking back at the time spent with loved ones, without the same feeling of love you had once upon a time. Haven’t you experienced this feeling? That’s the emotion for today–the Russian word, Razbliuto.

Razbliuto refers to the feelings and sentiments for someone whom you loved but no longer do. So you tend to look back to those days, but passively. A part of you will always love him/her but it is not there same anymore. You are no more the active player there and you hardly feel those butterflies intensely fluttering in the stomach anymore. That person becomes a part of your memory, carefully tucked away safely in a corner of the brain, only to resurface from time to time in an extremely harmless way. You still love them, yet in a very different way.

Have you ever experienced Razbliuto? What’s your story?

  1. Razbliuto is an addition to my vocabulary, thanks to you.
I feel it’s not just about the person but about the things, places where we might have stayed, etc which were once part of our active life and we loved them so much that life without them would be unthinkable. But the river of time flows under the bridge of life. And in hindsight, we have Razbliuto for them, won’t we?
